Fashion in the Mirror: Self-Reflection in Fashion Photography | The Photographers' Gallery

Another exhibition that I won't be able to go to.  Fashion in the Mirror is at The Photographers' Gallery in London (largest public gallery in London dedicated to photography) through September 14th.  21 photographers, including 2 of my favorites - Mario Testino (site coming soon) & Steven Klein (site worth checking out), are featured.

The House of Viktor & Rolf | Barbican Art Gallery

I'm sad I won't be able to see The House of Viktor & Rolf exhibition at the Barbican Art Gallery in London (ending Sept 21st).  This is the first time in the UK that an exhibition has been devoted to Viktor & Rolf.  There is a specially commissioned installation by Viktor & Rolf that is on both floors of the gallery.  The exhibition includes a doll house & miniature versions of their past collections on dolls.  Good news is that there is a 256 page hardcover book available ("the most comprehensive on the work of Viktor & Rolf to date"), although it won't compare to seeing the exhibition in person.  Visit the interactive dollhouse at www.Viktor-Rolf.com & go to the library to view photos of the dolls.  

  

The Barbican is doing all these special events for the exhibition that sound really fun, like a dance workshop called Strictly Viktor & Rolf (Sept 4th).  I would love to go to the Inside the House of Viktor & Rolf event (Sept 13th) to learn about their work & influence.  Viktor & Rolf will be there giving a live interview!

David Maisel | Library of Dust

The copper canisters in David Maisel's Library of Dust are so beautiful and shocking once you find out what the canisters are from.  Here's the book description from Borders.com:

Esteemed photographer David Maisel has created a somber and beautiful series of images depicting canisters containing the cremated remains of the unclaimed dead from an Oregon psychiatric hospital. Dating back as far as the nineteenth century these canisters have undergone chemical reactions causing extravagant blooms of brilliant white green and blue corrosion revealing unexpected beauty in the most unlikely of places.
